The electrophorus is an old electrostatic device often lost in the history of science. We have redesigned the basic device using modern triboelectric polymers in the charging pad that is recessed in a varnished hardwood base. The aluminum charge collector is spun with all rounded surfaces and a smooth deep die counter sunk screw to hold the 6" Delrin handle. The wood base measures 11"x11". Using a wool rubbing cloth we have generated 1" sparks to a brass ball. This is an ideal instrument for school use and for amateur scientists to experiment with electrostatics. Toroid Corona Rings
Our spun aluminum toroids have a 10" outer diameter and a 6" inner diameter which makes a 2" "donut". These toroids are part of a system. Each one has a ⅝" diameter by ¾" length threaded ¼-20 terminal on each end. This allows stacking or convenient construction of a Marx bank or other type of instrument. They also make excellent top loads for medium sized solid state or vacuum tube Tesla coils. Other sizes can be spun, email for details.
